SENIOR PUBLIC OFFICERS ARRAIGNED BEFORE THE HIGH COURT

                                                                                                                8th June 2009.
Two public officers were on Monday 8th June 2009, arraigned before the High Court in Freetown for misappropriation of public property contrary to section 12(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act 2000 as amended.
 
The Anti-Corruption Commission arraigned Osman Thamu Bangura, Store Keeper in the Minister of Education and Joe Lappia, former Deputy Director in the Ministry of Education, Bo, Southern Region. Osman Thaimu Bangura was charged with 16 (sixteen) counts of misappropriation of public property amounting to approximately Le 310,000,000 (three hundred and ten million Leones) contrary to section 12(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act 2000 as amended.
 
Whilst Joe Lappia was charged with 9 (nine) counts of misappropriation of public property to the tune of Le73, 000,000 (Seventy three million Leones). The allegation concerned the supply of uniform under the Girl Child Education Project.
 
The Accused persons pleaded not guilty and were released on conditional bail. Both cases were adjourned to the 25th June and 2nd July 2009 respectively. 
 
 
Also, Mohammed Muqtar Sheriff, Manager Hill Top Mission was charged with 24 (twenty-four) counts of Misappropriation  of public funds, contrary to Section 12(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act 2000 as amended, for misappropriating  approximately Le17,000,000 (seventeen million Leones) fee subsidy by the Ministry of Education to the Hill Top Mission Schools. The Accused pleaded not guilty and was released on conditional bail. The case was adjourned to the 15th June 2009. 
 
These cases were presided over by Justice Mary Sey and Nicholas Browne Marke respectively.
